Fatty and Baldy are a pair of detectives dealing with a crime syndicate of triad gangsters. After a jewellery robbery, they later find Lai (Carrie Ng), a woman who is associated with the gangsters, but end up getting themselves into trouble for going into the women’s changing room. The gang leader, Wing (Lau Kar Wing), learns that one of his henchman, Johnny (Tai Bo), has leaked his secrets so he is stabbed by Wing himself. During their investigation of the Lai’s house, things go very wrong for Fatty and Baldy, and they end up imitating robbers in order to escape from the gang. They steal her car and have a brief chase from the gangsters, trashing it along the way. Later that night, Lai calls Fatty and arranges a meeting at an abandoned warehouse. At the location another fight ensues, followed by a chase of Lai’s boss, “Prince” Tak (Lung Ming Yan), and Fatty ends up ruining the English Deputy Commissioner’s wedding. Fatty and Baldy are ordered to leave Hong Kong while things settle down, so they head to Singapore. However, Lai, who has turned against her gang, is then killed by a pair of transsexual assassins. When Fatty is about to have dinner with Baldy and his girlfriend (Wanda Yung), he inadvertently ruins their relationship. So the pair have dinner outside, leading to another confrontation. Baldy deals with two English henchmen, whilst Fatty is fighting the transsexual assassins.

Stephen Chow is Chan Mong-Gut, a famous Chinese lawyer, who must defend his apprentice Foon, who got framed for murder, in court. Stephen Chow stars as Chan Mong-Gut, a famous Chinese lawyer who was killed in the Qing dynasty. He must defend his apprentice, Foon, who has been framed for murder in Hong Kong. Being the third worst lawyer in China, he challenges the British legal system with no evidence on hand and manages to identify the killer in a hilarious way. The film was released during the same year as the Transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong. As the film deals specifically with the issue of justice, it can be interpreted as responding to the fears of the PRC takeover and to the general uncertainty of what that meant to the people of Hong Kong. The film promotes a normative vision of justice that can prevail over any tyranny, suggesting that knowledge of law, and the freedom to express it, is more important than brute strength (as embodied by the trials and tribulations of Chang Mong-Gut over countless foes).

If you expect this movie to have a story, you will be disappointed, but if you know who the director Chu Yen-Ping is, you wouldn’t have expected there to be a story in the first place. “Funny Family” is quite entertaining. he story is non-existent and the plot is ludicrous. With that said, the fight sequences are terrific, the acting isn’t fantastic, but decent for a comedy, and the characters are at the very least entertaining which I think is enough to make this movie watchable. If you think that you might watch this movie now because of what I said, just realize that the movie has a scene of kung-fu bowling, cultural jokes that would be esoteric to Western audiences, and an annoying yet catchy theme song. This movie is almost undefinable. If you do decide to watch this movie, just realize that this is the kind of movie where you have to turn your brain off as you watch it. If you do so, you might actually enjoy watching this. Just don’t expect art.

500 years ago, during their journey to the west to fetch the Buddhist scriptures, Monkey got annoyed with the constant nagging of his master, Longevity Monk, and decided to betray the latter. He was intercepted and subdued by Guanyin, who decided to give him a second chance after the Monk pleaded for leniency. In the present, Monkey has been reincarnated as Joker, the chief of a group of outlaws. Joker and his gang are attacked by two demonesses, Spider Woman and Pak Jing-jing, who threaten and force them to do their bidding. Joker’s second-in-command (later revealed to be a reincarnation of Pigsy) secretly overhears the demons’ plan to capture the Longevity Monk and feast on his flesh to gain immortality. On the other hand, Joker falls in love with Pak Jing-jing. Grandpa Buddha shows up in disguise as a bunch of grapes, informs Joker about the danger he is in, and gives him a magic mirror which can reveal a being’s true form. The group are later attacked by Bull King, who is also after the Monk. Joker and Pigsy flee with Pak Jing-jing and Spider Woman to Waterfall Cave, where the two demonesses start fighting over Joker. Pak Jing-jing and Joker eventually flee from the cave while Spider Woman becomes pregnant with Pigsy’s child by accident. As Pak Jing-jing had been poisoned by Spider Woman, Joker goes back to the cave to ask for the antidote, but Spider Woman imprisons him instead. In the meantime, outside the cave, Pak Jing-jing is captured by Bull King, who cures her of the poison.Inside the cave, Joker finds Pandora’s Box, which can open up a time portal when moonlight shines on it and “Prajñāpāramitā” is chanted. He also overhears Guanyin’s voice, telling him that he was actually the Monkey King in his past life and is destined to continue his quest to escort his master on the journey to the west. Meanwhile, Bull King and Pak Jing-jing enter the cave and start fighting with Spider Woman. Pak Jing-jing commits suicide after mistakenly believing that Joker has betrayed her love and fathered a child with Spider Woman.

Tricky Brains (Chinese: 整蠱專家) is a 1991 Hong Kong comedy film written and directed by Wong Jing, who also co-stars in the film. The film stars Andy Lau, Stephen Chow, Rosamund Kwan and Ng Man-tat. A man who has a wide range of tricks at his disposal, including many practical jokes and some more serious tricks. When he is hired to break up a young couple, Lucy (Rosamund Kwan) and Kit (Andy Lau) he goes undercover as the long lost brother of Kit. This is the funniest chinese movie I’ve ever seen. It has a lot of stuff in it that you have to be chinese to understand though so I wouldn’t recommend it to some of my friends. It was such a good movie that I had to go and buy it. Chow Sing Chi and Lau Tak Wah should do every movie together. They make such a good comedic team. The most memorable part of this movie for me was the suit Jing Koo was wearing at the club. Theres hundreds of great scenes though and I should single out just any one. 10 out of 10. Doesn’t get any better than this.

This is the movie that launched Stephen Chow to stardom. It is a parody of the original Dou San or God of Gamblers movie which starred Chow Yun-fat in 1989. Sing (Stephen Chow) is a mainland China country boy who arrives in Hong Kong to visit his Uncle “Blackie Tat” (Ng Man-Tat). When Sing stays with his uncle and his friends in their apartment, Blackie soon learns of Sing’s supernatural ability to see through objects and, later on, his ability to change playing cards by rubbing them. He takes advantage of this and turns Sing into the Dou Seng or the “Saint of Gamblers”. After getting into a fight with several alleyway gamblers he meets the lovely Yee-Mong (lit. trans: Beautiful Dream, but euphemistically as wet dream), a henchman for the “King of Gamblers”, and becomes infatuated with her. Sing quickly becomes a rival to the King and must win his way through a world competition to prove his skill.

Lee Chak-Sing (Stephen Chow) is a rich kid living in Hawaii. He’s arrogant and fond of playing mean tricks on everyone around him. His life changes when he meets Chung-Chung (Gigi Leung), a young woman whom he declares is very ugly. Tat (Ng Man Tat), Sing’s loyal assistant, is revealed by Sing’s mother to be his true father. He is then faced with a decision: Accept Tat as his father and lose his inheritance or continue to call the other man his father and live in the lap of luxury. He chooses his father. Sing offends local crime lord Fumito (Joe Cheng) by dancing with Fumito’s girl in a Pulp Fiction-inspired dance contest. In a fit of rage, Fumito orders his henchman Mark (Charles Shen) to kill Sing. When Tat comes to rescue his son, both are caught by Mark and tied together in a bathroom stall, where Mark planted a bomb. Sing chops off his arm and manages to let his father escape on an ejector toilet seat, leaving Sing to apparently die in the explosion. Sing’s brain and lips are recovered. There is technology to construct a new body for him at the cost of $60,000,000. However, since Sing renounced his rich father, he doesn’t have the money. Tat can only provide $6,000.

Just Heroes (Chinese: 義膽群英) is a 1989 Hong Kong crime film, directed by John Woo and Wu Ma. The film stars Danny Lee, David Chiang and Stephen Chow. Following the death of a triad leader, there is conflict within the Hong Kong organised crime syndicate as various possible leaders vie for power. David Chiang attempts to bring the traitor in the midst of his own group to justice following a taped conversation of traitor admitting his crimes, but who cannot be found, while Danny Lee, the elected leader of the triad has his family attacked as he fights unknown enemies to bring the organisation back under control. Their actions are hindered by Chow Sing Chi who is attempting to build up anger between the two completing triads of Hong Kong. The film is brought to a bloody conclusion as the traitor leader of the group storms the triad safe house in a desperate attempt to gain control over the group, but is met by heavy resistance. Just Heroes began production as a benefit for the Hong Kong Director’s Union.[1][2] The film was made to aid director Chang Cheh who was broke.[3] When actors Danny Lee and David Chiang found out about Chang’s financial situation, they developed the story Just Heroes that was made to be similar to the film A Better Tomorrow.[3] John Woo directed about 60% of the film.[4]

Chan had long wanted to be involved in drama films, but had constantly been dissuaded by Leonard Ho, one of the founders of Golden Harvest and Chan's godfather. Ho had argued that to ensure success in his films, Chan should play to his fanbase by only doing action movies and avoiding the love scenes that may alienate certain markets (notably Japan). Ho died on 16 February 1998[1] and Chan left Golden Harvest soon after, seeking a change and a new freedom to make the films he really wanted to. This coincided with his growing fame in the West, due to the international success of the film Rush Hour. Gorgeous was originally conceived purely as a love story, with Chan as producer, but not as one of the film's cast. In order to secure the actress Shu Qi, the script of the film was re-written and a role for Chan was created. This soon developed into a starring role, and elements of action crept in. However, Gorgeous remains primarily a romantic comedy and so it differs from his usual all-out action films. The action scenes are fewer and there is no real bad guy character - the fight with the nominal enemy (played by Brad Allan) is a pre-arranged bout and both fighters wear boxing gloves - competitive rather than motivated by revenge or the fight for survival. The director had wanted to use Chan's office as the set for C.N.'s apartment, but this proved impractical, particularly as that section of the office is on the third floor. However, many props from Chan's office were used including his own training dummy. Chan said of his character C.N., that he was "60-70% Jackie Chan". The clothing the character wears, the training routine he undergoes and healthy lifestyle he maintains, his general good nature and his environmental role are all traits and actions of Chan himself.

Ning Tsai-Shen, a humble tax collector, arrives in a small town to carry out his work. Lam helps her rid herself of the brute, and takes her on as a sort of teaching aid in order to help develop his students’ ghost-battling skills.Meanwhile, the easily scared ghost lady works on becoming a more formidable ghost, and also emancipating herself as a woman. However, Michelle and Allan clash with one another almost immediately because she feels like she is under house arrest, while Allan is equally fed up because he is not able to join the Chinese Premier’s bodyguard detail in China due to his duties to watch over Michelle. Michelle eventually storms out of the house and goes to the shopping mall. Unknown to Michelle, the mall is crawling with mob assassins under disguise. A massive shoot-out ensues when the assassins attempt to kill her, but Allan shows up and protects her while taking out the assassins one by one. One of the assassins who posed as a police officer and is killed by Allan during the shoot-out is the younger brother of Wong, a former Chinese soldier who fought together with his brother. Wong seizes his brother’s dead body from the police morgue and buries his brother’s body later, swearing vengeance on Allan. In the meantime, Michelle is grateful towards Allan for saving her and develops feelings for him. The two grow closer as they gain a better understanding towards one another. Though Michelle is straightforward with her feelings for him, Allan rejects her pursues because of his duties as her bodyguard.

The story begins in medias res, with Stephen Chow having ordered and subsequently criticized Turkey’s (Karen Mok) Assorted Noodles for its lack of taste, terrible choice of ingredients and feces in the pig’s colon, as she lashes out at him for his criticism towards her cooking. He tells her he is the God Of Cookery. The God of Cookery is the story of celebrity chef Stephen Chow (the Chinese characters used for Chow’s name in the movie is different from Chow’s actual name), who knows very little about cooking and is willing to hawk any product for a price. The arrogant and cocky Chow is known as the “God of Cookery” and runs a successful business empire, as well as appearing as a judge for culinary competitions rigged to make him look good. When Bull Tong (Vincent Kuk), posing as an understudy, exposes Chow as a fraud during the opening ceremony of Chow’s 50th restaurant, Chow’s business empire is taken away. Bull was conspiring with Chow’s business partner (Ng Man Tat) to overthrow him. Ruined, Chow lives on the streets in an area known as Temple Street where the story continues with Stephen subsequently being assaulted by thugs. Two rival street vendors, Goosehead (Lee Siu-Kei) and Turkey (Karen Mok), conduct gang warfare to see which vendor can sell the two best-selling dishes: beef balls and “pissing” shrimp. Chow manages to unite the two rival vendors by combining the two dishes into a new dish, “Pissing Beef Balls”, which the three of them could sell together. It becomes a huge success, and the vendors convince Chow to enroll in a culinary school in order to reclaim the title he lost, but not before he discovers that Turkey idolized Chow as the “God of Cookery”, and received her scarred appearance due to her devotion. The success of the “Pissing Beef Balls” alarms Bull, the new “God of Cookery”, who arranges for Chow to be assassinated on the way to culinary school. Turkey, however, takes the bullet instead, and Chow, presumed dead, disappears.

Upon leaving his village he is encountered by Ma Ling-Yee who is also supposed to be involved in the rebellion but learns that Ling-Yee had betrayed him and their village for the bounty on Hei-Kwun’s head. After an epic battle, we skip ahead several years, and arrive with Hung Hei-Kwun and his now martial arts skilled son making their way through China in order to find money for food. At this time, the film introduces “Red Bean”, who is in the process of swindling a very rich man out of his money. Kwun tries to leave his son in the care of his brother, but is betrayed, forcing him to kill his brother.

The movie starts out with all of the gods in heaven complaining to the Jade Emperor about the malicious practical jokes played on them by Dragon Fighter Lohan. The Emperor summons Dragon’s sworn-brother, Tiger Fighter Lohan (Ng Man Tat), in order to find Dragon. Dragon (Stephen Chow) eventually appears and rebuke the various gods for their horrible judgments on mankind. He insisted he can do a better job and is banished to be reincarnated into an animal by the Jade Emperor. The Bodhisattva Guan Yin (Anita Mui) intervene and issues Dragon a challenge. If he can change the fates of three people—a beggar, a prostitute, and a villain—doomed to nine incarnations as their current position in life within three heavenly days (thirty years), without heavenly powers, he will be upgraded in heavenly status. If he fails, he will be downgraded from an arhat to an animal. The Bodhisattva gives him a magical fan that can only be used three times a day for sleight-of-hand-like magic tricks to help him in his mission. However, heavenly soldiers force him down from heaven before he has the fan in hand.

Ling Ling Fat is a Cantonese wordplay on the code number "008", a reference to James Bond, whose number was 007 (see From Beijing with Love), as well as part of a Cantonese Chinese New Year's Greeting: "Kung hei fat choy" (恭喜發財). Ling Ling Fat (Stephen Chow) is, by heritage, a member of the Chinese Emperor's elite personal bodyguards. He belongs to the tribe of Baolong, which literally means "King Protecting". Instead of studying martial arts, like his fellow bodyguards, Ling Ling Fat makes unusual inventions, such as cannons fired from the mouth, helicopter blades, and magnets. He also practices gynaecology, and spends time with his loving wife (Carina Lau). In the beginning of the film, Ling Ling Fat fails to apprehend a group of ugly swordsmen who are trespassing in the Forbidden City, but he does manage to acquire a kung fu manual, Flying Fairy, from one of the swordsmen. During an audience with the Emperor, Ling Ling Fat's seemingly useless inventions and his ignorance of martial arts enrage the Emperor, who demotes him to menial tasks around the palace. Meanwhile, Faceless, King of Gum Tribe, plans to assassinate the Emperor and overtake China. The Gum Tribe creates a diversion by inviting all the doctors of China to a medical exposition in which an alien is to be dissected. Ling Ling Fat and the Emperor separately depart for the event. While Ling Ling Fat and his wife feast at a string of restaurants, Gum's men kill the Emperor's three remaining bodyguards. The assassins put the unconscious Emperor in an alien costume to present him as the alien for dissection. However, the criminals spot the police and the ensuing car chase cuts through the hillside shanty town. Ka-Kui persists in his chase, eventually following on foot as the drug lord attempts to escape in a double-decker bus. Ka Kui manages to get in front of the bus and bring it to a halt by threatening to shoot the driver with his service revolver. The Kung Fu Scholar is a 1994 Hong Kong martial arts action comedy film directed by Norman Law and starring Aaron Kwok, Dicky Cheung and Vivian Chow. Later, Ka-Kui is reprimanded by Superintendent Li for letting the operation get out of hand, but subsequently presented to the media as a model police officer. His next assignment is to protect Chu Tao’s secretary, Selina Fong (Brigitte Lin), who plans to testify in court about Chu Tao’s illegal activities. At first, Selina insists that she does not require protection, but after Ka Kui has a fellow policeman break into her apartment and pose as a knife-wielding assassin, she becomes more cooperative. When Ka-Kui arrives at his apartment with Selina, he is surprised by his girlfriend, May (Maggie Cheung) and her friends, who are throwing a birthday party for him, but May becomes angry with Ka-Kui after seeing Selina only wearing lingerie and Ka-Kui’s jacket. This movie has undercover cop Stephen Chow trying to catch the bad guy by joining his gang. It’s ultimately a forgettable movie. It’s nice while you watch it – there are a few jokes that are pure Stephen Chow – but those are the only parts worth remembering. The typical relationship fights and friendships are inevitable, so that takes away some of the fun. You’re waiting for these two people to argue or these two people to become friends, so that that the movie can move on to other things. Otherwise the movie moves along nicely. It’s not as funny or as entertaining as many of his other movies but it’s still enjoyable. There’s more drama in this movie than many of his other movies, so if you see this be aware of that fact. Relationships are strong in here, as are loyalty and the other usual cop/triad values. Nice watch, but I’d say only if you’re a Stephen Chow fan (or a HUGE Danny Lee fan).
